Re: shades of doom update

It seems to me that there are two extremes at play here. Those people who think gameplay is more important than audio, and those who think audio is the be all and end all of games as well as production in general. Personally, I like a good balance between both. shades of Doom has some of the worst sounds by today's standards, it is true. but as Phil said, the game was made back inthe 90s.. so I don't think all the people who are not playing this game because of the so-called crappy sounds are taking into account that back then even mainstream games had bad sounds. As to realistic sounds... I think people need to realize that the guns you hear in mainstream games and movies are not actually all that realistic... if you've ever heard an actual rifle or pistol go off, they aren't anywhere near as dramatic as they sound in media... the same applies to punching and close combat sounds. I think a good game balances between production and gameplay... with a bit more e mphasis on gameplay. some of the games I play havbe the least realistic sounds and in some cases pretty bad ones... yet they're fun to play as heck. Some of the little known Japanese audio games come to mind. But i hope to see an update with at the very least a bit of a surface lift on audio... because while I don't think that is the most important thing, I believe it is important to at least bring the audio up to closer to today's standards.
As to coordinates... I'm not quite sure what Seal means either... since it's true that all games that have world maps use some sort of coordinates system, even if the players don't have to specifically check it. There again I like to have both... ambiance to let you know where you are but coordinates or at least a name for the area you are currently in.
