So I found this potentially dissectable answer for Pygame:

Tldr: it uses a tool (avconv?) to convert a folder of images to avi.
This isn't quite good enough, since it lacks audio and requires saving every single frame as an image file, then converting all of that into a video file. But merging that with an audio track might work?
