Yeah we need hearing more than most, so it's something I personally wouldn't mess around with. And I hate going to the doctor with a passion. I'd much rather keep my distance from the medical practice for as long as possible, but I would go for that.
The device is called an otoscope and that's what they use to look in your ear. The peroxide will bubble and probably best to get warm water in there. I got one of those ear syringe things from the pharmacy for free. If you can't get one for free, they're probably pretty cheap because they're just plastic with a rubberish bulb. Think turkey baster's little brother, but the bulb is more elongated rather than round.
