Yes, yes and yes. Totally agree. There is something to be said for the fact that stolen code was kind of my gateway into learning to code though, but it was what it was, and it's certainly not something I'm proud of. I was a lot younger then.
This hole discussion does make me wish there were more open source games of this genre, but of course I understand why there aren't. It's a pretty depressing cycle, people like the true swamp gamer clone, and by so doing they discourage current and or future developers from continuing to develop. I regret being a, arguably huge, part of the problem a couple years ago.
