These technologies can't usefully work until and unless we have incredibly major advances in materials science and batteries. Until then, yeah it's doable, barely, but it's also a dead end.
Also, people have tried to do self-driving aircraft taxis. We don't have them because it turns out that things smaller and less powerful than a helicopter can't fight against winds at higher altitudes. SO anything beyond the height of 10 stories or so, control goes out the window. If the energy problem gets solved and it gets flight time worth speaking of--which it can't, currently--this one's waiting right behind it to stop the entire project dead. For single-person aircraft larger than a jetpack, the problem isn't flying, it's flying safely and in a controlled manner.
Someone will probably figure out some sort of very small single-person aircraft at some point--not soon, but it is at least doable--but I don't think it'll ever be smaller than a living room. The physics doesn't work out.
