I'm already familiar with the plethora of prototype jetpack experiments, part of that started back in the, ah, 1960s? Or that one from the russian inventor in 1919. The same logistical and physics issues apply yes, higher altitudes mean less air pressure means less force and the engine efficiency drops. Its hard to say how much fuel economy you can get out of it at higher altitudes if you can achieve a coast mode, but there's likely going to be a point of diminishing returns. Its hard to say what that is though without more testing in those conditions. The engines themselves are miniature Jet Engines that run on Kerosene which provide 22kg of thrust each, and he uses his arm's for stability in a tripod formation with the engine on his back, allowing him to control direction and speed by moving his arms.
Currently their pushing top speed and potential fuel economy at low altitudes while taking safety into consideration as a baseline to see what level of efficiency they can get. It shouldn't be too hard to estimate the potential drop off in efficiency at higher altitudes and how that can effect range.
