You're not going to leave on your 18th birthday. You'll need to deal with estate agents, and that can take months, depending on who you're dealing with, and you won't be able to start the ball rolling until you turn 18 anyway, and get SSI so you have enough income to pay the rent / other bills.
Camlorn is indeed correct that having someone sighted around to help you with the move process will be incredibly handy. You might need to furnish it, first. Then you'll have to move all of your shit in. Then you'll want to get a feel for your washing machine, tumble drier, etc, seriously, those fuckers are hard to figure out if you're blind and can't see what does what.
Also, just ask yourself this. How much can you really do independantly? Can you cook to a reasonable degree, wash clothes, make hot drinks if that's your thing, etc. Very importantly, do you have the money to buy the things you'll need starting out? Will your SSI be enough to cover the rent? Are you able to manage money effectively?
