Re: family/future. Need advice
Found this topic very helpful. I know it's not for me, but just wanted to offer input.
I plan to leave at 18 as well. I am not in the same situation as @#1, but my family are incredibly bigoted to a certain situation I will not disclose here, and I'm getting tired of the shit I get for it on an almost regular basis. I do not think I am a victim of emotional abuse, since it doesn't happen often, or at least as often as it has to happen in order to fit the description of "emotional abuse."
I can cook pasta, scrambled eggs (please don't cook them in the microwave, they're disgusting!), tacos, a breakfast dish I can't think of at the moment that's not all that hard, and I have a few Braille recipes for things you can bake that my former vision teacher taught me when I used to do extended school year (ESY) stuff for school a few years ago. Other than that I am fortunate enough to have a family more than happy to teach me those types of skills.
I am a very observant person, so I know how to cook a lot of things from memory, but just have never put it into practice.
I need to invest in one of those single-cup coffee makers. I took the time to braille my microwave (it's a normal one I guess, don't know the company or anything), so I'm able to make Ramen and oatmeal and stuff with that. Obviously I won't be able to take the family microwave with me when I leave, so I'll probably end up investing in one of those Amazon microwaves at some point too.
I'm ok at vacuuming and such, but will probably end up investing in a Rumba in the future. My God, lots of product investment lol.
What is SSI? Is that just another way of referring to government-issued disability funds?
@#1 To no fault of your own, you didn't mention whether you wanted to move just out of your parents' house into your own apartment, or whether, like me, you want to move somewhere else, in my case 3,000 miles across the country. Your answer to that, and my questions to that, will change things, but unless I have a better idea of the entire plan I don't know the right questions to ask if that makes sense.
