Rust does have a lot of game dev traction, but done through entity component systems, not through classes.

You actually basically can't do object oriented programming in it though.  You can try for a while, but you can't do inheritance really.  There's some techniques that look sort of like inheritance if you really squint, but they're almost impossibly unergonomic.  You have to treat it like a functional language and do composition instead of inheritance.

But most modern high performance sighted game engines have moved to entity component systems and must be written in a C++-level language for performance, so Rust attracts a lot of people for that reason.  It's not nearly at the point of C++ for it because 30+ years of momentum won't go away basically ever, and there's a lot of other things like Unity that can protect you from ever having to know about that level of the stack anyway.  But, ignoring the fact that Rust has no accessible GUI libraries and pretending that you're sighted, it has a lot to offer.
