@53 I'm confused. Are you calling something like Doscourse a custom platform that no one uses? Or are you claiming that individual forums, mailing lists, etc. as used by just about every project I rely on for my work are custom platforms no one uses? Sounds like you're painting a false dichotomy where the internet is divided between the centralized Googles and Reddits, then there are individual communities and people even building software to run same, that no one else uses. Can you plese unconfuse me?
If this place moves to Reddit, I won't follow. I'm sure it's possible to use Reddit with a screen reader, just as it's possible to put more effort into doing any number of things. But Reddit's lack of focus on accessibility is the same as hanging out a "you're not welcome here" sign as far as I'm concerned. Why build a community somewhere that doesn't even care that it is inaccessible to you? And no, having to know that you read posts by finding some button and using some other commands to work around the fact that Reddit can't even set tabstops correctly isn't accessibility. It's a huge workaround that anyone joining your community will either get lucky enough to find, or they'll turn away and either go somewhere else or think that there is no place for them. And that's pretty much the opposite of what you want if your intent is to build a community.
