@11 thanks for your thoughts. I actually agree wholeheartedly that accessibility should support all the major screen readers. the reason why I ask for people to use NVDA is that it has been thoroughly tested to work with it. the point of this study is to evaluate a particular UI design. keeping most things constant, including screen reader, gives more reliable results from which to decide whether the UI design is any good or not. after that is established, testing the system with all the major screen readers to check general compatibility is a logical next step. but that would be a whole another study with completely different goals and procedure.
