Re: Accessible radios?
Well otrcat.com is a site I have just brought some old radio stuff from.
The price is as much for the cds to be shipped and that's all.
so 5 bucks for 1 cd 20 for 4 cds.
I spent 80 bucks mainly as birthday presents and I think I had a 4 a 3 and then several 1 and 2 disk sets.
otrr old time radio reserchers is another one they have a distribution library and some of there completed stuff is found on the internet archive.
I have not touched c crane though at one point in the past before it basically died locally when I got an old receiver, shortwave basically died here and before I was looking for a good receiver.
For me this is probably not going to happen as such, as my grandpa has an old 1930s set he got back in the day.
Its not been used for ages but has good sound.
The unit is in a leather case and apart from a busted switch, its still working its quite clunky though.
However its destined to be mine after he dies since I did ask
him if I could have it when that happens.
On the radio side though, there is tune in which I have not tried, global tune which apparently accesses physical radios you can tune anywhere in the world, and that sort of thing.
Here we have all our radio stations going through I heart which I have not tried.
A lot of the media companies especially for the government and other stations do band together though which basically means I can get whatever I want.
Once you have the station name though if you can get it its possible to pick up a live stream via their website.
The government controlled stations I do listen to have am fm, net, mobile app and are on I heart they also have facebook, twitter and email service.
To be honest I'd probably listen to more net streams if bandwidth was not so f**cking expensive here in new Zealand.
What I pay covers the youtube part of it, podcasts and system updates and a few other shares.
However the streams th
at others including myself on youtube does push it over and its almost 100 bucks as it is well over 70 anyway.
If I ever moved out I'd probably have to get a cheaper previder or go to dialup which sadly has never gone much over 10 dollars.
That will cut out basically every audio stream, game etc anything that is not text can all go to hell.
The only reason I can even afford the net now is because I live at home with my family.
So streaming on the net just for the heck of it doesn't happen.
A few tv stations are similcasted with radio stations and some have digital stations accessed over our free to air digital tv nets but that's about it.
Though of late the only time I listen to radio its from a programmed set painfully done manually by listening to stations after the batterys are changed, and then that is only in the car.
News is done via the local government national broadcast station which does not carry adds bar for itself and no
bs and sensationalised crap that all the other stations not funded by the government get.
The news is quite good as is weather.
The programs are for what I listen to are mostly ok and not much changes from day to day.
Its fair to say though I spend more time at this laptop than I spend on any other device though.
Especially since I am in reality software, I need to devote a few hours a day to gaming and such and while I do posess because of preasure from friends facebook and twitter its only for viewing and not writing anything.
