It's pretty easy to have the best of both worlds in terms of fidelity and portability. If you rip your CDs to FLAC (or another lossless format), you can very easily convert them to MP3 all in one batch. Then you'll have two sets of files, but the MP3s are much smaller than the FLACs and so the total space required isn't significantly larger than just FLAC. Now just load the MP3s onto your ipod or whatever, and listen to the FLACs with the SB. Given how cheap disk space is, I don't see any reason to do it any other way.
