I did this when I was trying to decide if I should rip everything to MP3 or to FLAC. In my testing, I could always detect 128k MP3, 192k was harder but detectable, 256k was very close. It took very careful listening but I did average above 50% at 256k. I was not able to detect 320k MP3 when compared to FLAC. Of course this was on my PC and little Klipsch speakers which is not very revealing. I do wish there was an ABX plugin for the SB. I bet I could tell the difference on my system, but without ABX I wouldn't trust my ears alone as it will be very close. Oh yea, I ripped everything to FLAC and I still do. -Ben -- Ben Diss 'SB3' (http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_squeezebox.html) -> 'Lavry DA10' (http://www.lavryengineering.com/productspage_da_10.html) -> 'BAT VK-31SE' (http://www.balanced.com/products/line/Vk-31SE/index.html) -> 'Halo A21' (http://www.parasound.com/halo/a21.php) -> 'B&W 803D' (http://www.bwspeakers.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/products.models/label/Model%20803D) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ben Diss's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4289 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32576 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
