That is the important point.  Listening tests, however
double/single/short sighted they may be, are directly measuring the
required output.  Difference testing does not, so its interpretation
will always be a major question.

How have people dealt with the environmental issues?  You have external
issues (do we need to do these tests in soundproof rooms?  I guess so),
and internal ones - what about the difference in operational noise
level between equipment?  What about noise in valve amps?  This will
surely generate low-level differences even if, in other respects, items
sound the same.  How do we interpret this?
