I was initially intrigued by the idea, but reckon that the issues I have raised are close to show-stoppers. However, I didn't mean to be overly negative: I am always very happy to be proven wrong! I'm not here to diss someone's ideas - my job involves a lot of brainstorming, and I like to encourage and promote ideas (I even have some occasionally!). However, you also need to come up with the possible down-sides and try to reach a conclusion as to whether to do more work investigating. I like the theory of difference testing, but the practical problems, to me, are significant. Looking into the audibility of measurable differences would require DBX testing and a lot of subjective descriptions being matched up to these measured differences. ezkcdude;184554 Wrote: > 2) It may not be useful for detecting "subtle" differences, which are > masked by listening to the actual signal. Small differences would make an interesting PhD: I especially like the idea of letting people hear the difference and then see if that conditions or trains their hearing.
