IMHO, what some people fail to appreciate is that with DAC's, it is a matter of personal taste, even more than if one is 'better' than another.
If you put all your money into a Transporter, you are stuck with the internal DAC unless you want to spend even more money on an external DAC, in which case you cannot say that it is stupid to buy a better PSU and DAC for an SB3 or Duet. The SB3 or DAC allows you to choose the DAC, and therefore tailor the sound to your liking and it is quite sensible to the try and get the best out of that set-up.
