Nick... 1) I'm not aware of any (pre-digital) studio recording technology ever used that went much above 30-35Khz flat freq response. 2-inch tape was good but not that good. 2) everything before the studio ADC is analogue? - that's complete and utter rubbish I'm afraid. It wasn't even true in 1980! - Eventide Harmonizers, Lexicon Reverbs were around then - not to mention digital synths. Nowadays pretty much everything apart from the mics an a few pet compressors/FX are digital. The desks are digital, the recorders are digital and then there's ProTools....
