Some more strange things...using the Alan Parsons sine wave, the display from SB3+TACT+DAC is "perfect" - no noise or distortion visible. A really beautiful classic sine trace.
However, the SB3 analogue out is quite noisy... the sine shape is correct with no distortion but it looks like low-level RFI "hash" is superimposed on the sine. I know it's not really fair to compare a modded £1k+ DAC with super Nat Semi output and filter op-amps, super low nose regs, Black Gates and hex-FRED's. I was really trying to get to the bottom of the square wave mystery. So to recap: Sine waves via TACT+DAC are visually great... better than SB native DAC Squarewaves via DAC alone - visually identical to SB analogue out. Squarewaves via TACT+DAC...not as "good" as SB analogue out. Are there any TACT experts in the house? Would a different PSU fix this problem or is it something inherent in the way that the TACT hardware/software handles square waves, even in Bypass mode? -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...SB3+Stontronics PSU - Altmann JISCO/UPCI - TACT RCS 2.2X + Good Vibrations S/W - MF Triplethreat(Audiocom full mods)- Linn 5103 - Aktiv 5.1 system (6x LK140's, ESPEK/TRIKAN/KATAN/SEIZMIK 10.5), Townsend Supertweeters, Kimber & Chord cables Outdoors: Boombox+Creative Sub (If I remember to turn it on...) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Phil Leigh's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=85 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53345
