As an FYI, the SB3 does not support anything over 24/48 kHz period. This includes the SPDIF out. Adding an external DAC will not change that.
Also, I believe that Sean has said plainly that significantly improving the analog output of the SB3 cannot be achieved through part swapping. It would require a complete board redesign. That's something a modder can't achieve. Adding an external DAC can improve the analog output through that DAC but you will still be limited to playing 24/48 kHz files.
