Unless you really need the extra features (balanced outs, etc), then I personally recommend putting your money instead into speakers and/or amp, rather than an external DAC or Transporter. The DAC in the SB3 sounds outstanding just exactly as it is! Try not to let the "but it has a plastic case" people influence you, just do your own listening tests instead. External DACs can sound "different", but this does not necessarily mean better (no matter how much was spent), and very often the humble SB3 genuinely outperforms them. Currently, I do not personally feel the sound quality "differences" are as significant as some have claimed - and certainly it is not worth the money or time investment, in my opinion.
Audiophilia nervosa is a cruel and unforgiving mistress.
