One more vote for NOT doing a long runs of RCA cables. I helped a friend install 6 stereo channels off a 12 channel multi-room amp. Not a big fan of long runs of speaker wire either, but people want what they want. He wanted 6 rooms with controllable sound in each room and a centralized location for everything.
Here is what we did. All speaker runs came back to the AV closet with the proper size wire for the long runs. We installed 6 Receivers on a shelf to feed the 12 channels of the multi-room amp with 6 Stereo pairs. He has volume control in each room because we trimmed the amp channels for max volume for each room with the Receive Volume all the way up (no way to over drive the speakers even if a mistake is made, it would be loud but no damage). He uses the one Controller he got with the Duet (5 single Receivers and one Duet) as well as iPeng on his iTouch to control the volume in the rooms (Receiver doesn't have IR Remote anyway for in-room control so Receivers are great for hidden setups like this). If I just had to have a centralized Amp location, that is how I would do it. IMO it also gives the most flexibility in that reach room can have its volume adjusted, have whatever music one wants, or have the same music sync'd in all rooms. -- iPhone *iPhone* Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, Vandersteen Speakers: Quatro Mains, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Video: Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1 Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: Second Boom Bathroom: Squeezebox Radio Ford Thunderbird: Duet, Mac Mini Ford Expedition: SB Touch, USB drive ------------------------------------------------------------------------ iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68131 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
