I don't see how this phenomenon has anything to do with ABX testing.
You describe a situation where you listen to *precisely* the same thing
twice and they sound radically different. Fair enough - I have
experienced the same thing myself.

If you want to extrapolate from this that it is therefore pointless
doing comparisons, then it must hold for *any* kind of comparison, not
just ABX.
