Magiccarpetride: The difference between you and Phil is: Phil compare stuff being equal. You compared two different things (and of course find differences). We are not talking about expectation bias here. Even Phil did find difference in your original recordings and we all believe you that for this particular set of files the hires-master DOES sound better.
Lets try to put it different: Maybe you ever watched Star Wars. How about comparing the 'old' original version (on DVD) with the new remastered version on BlueRay both on our new shining Hi-Res Flat Screen. There is absolutely no doubt that the BlueRay version looks soooooo much better. These light sabers are of so much better color depths, its just amaaaazing ! But of course that's nothing to do with expectation Bias, it's also nothing to do with Blue Ray it's just due to the fact that it was remastered. This analogy is the the same as your two files from your 14th post. Now comes a Phil and claims ... hey guys - could it be that the BlueRay is just better because it contains a remastered version ? So he goes and burns the BlueRay on DVD - watches both again ... and ... tadaaaaa ... they still looked the same. For some reason the light sabers are still as shiny as on the BlueRay ! So now he has two DVDs (one with the old version and one with the newly burned) of which the latter still looks much better than the former. But just not better than the BlueRay. So if I could decide whether to by the remastered DVD for half of the price, or the remastered BlueRay for twice the price, I'd choose the DVD. Phil can you provide (snippets) of both files ? One from the original, the other down and upsampled. Then magiccarpetride can try himself to find the hires-one. Of course he's still got a chance to get it right 50% of the time, so maybe do three snippets.
