Don't know for sure, but I've read/heard that some of the services (sky.fm, pandora, MOG, spotifiy, etc.) use a bit of extra "compression" in their music to give it a bit of an oomph. You're probably familiar with the "sound wars" where most modern music is mastered terribly to give it an apparent "oomph" when played.
