I understand that early solid state amps which operated in class b had
low distortion when measured at full pelt but sounded shit when played
at normal levels. However this would have been revealed by the right
measurement ( distortion at 1 watt output). 

I understand that it is said that amps using lots of negative feedback
measure well but sound shit but I don't know whether this is true. 

I Think one should take with a pinvh of salt the widespread audiophile
idea that the qualities of good components can't be measured. The
counter argument can be put by reference to Daniel Weiss who claims to
design his dacs by measurements only. Now I know some people don't love
his stuff, but I've never seen it seriously suggested that they sound
shit.
