Agree with both both ron adamdea and phil here , but I'm slumming with
-3dB 20Hz at my listening position I could fix that by towing the sub
closer to a wall but it would make integration harder .

There is really no piont in the 10k$ dac before your speakers cover
20-20k you miss a lot information in the recordings a lot .
The key is well integrated subwoofer.

On the original Q if front end means digital transport ? : No

It's a solved problem use any source of lossles digital audio to a
decent dac , done.
