Another thought: for those who insist on server tweaking, why are you
messing around at the edges of a monolithic, proprietary operating
system?

Why not get hold of an old PC, remove all the uneccessary hardware
including any graphics and sound cards etc, and install a barebones
linux distribution - you don't need a gui. All you will need to run is
LMS, a network interface and an ssh server (in order to transfer your
ripped files). You could even remove the CD/DVD drive. Everything else
could be uninstalled.

In fact, you could dispense with the hard disk and ssh server, and run
the OS and LMS from a USB stick or cheap SSD, with your music on a NAS
mount.

You wouldn't have the dubious benefit of mutual reinforcement within
the Windows tweaking community, but you would learn a damn sight more
about what really makes computers tick...
