Another thought: for those who insist on server tweaking, why are you messing around at the edges of a monolithic, proprietary operating system?
Why not get hold of an old PC, remove all the uneccessary hardware including any graphics and sound cards etc, and install a barebones linux distribution - you don't need a gui. All you will need to run is LMS, a network interface and an ssh server (in order to transfer your ripped files). You could even remove the CD/DVD drive. Everything else could be uninstalled. In fact, you could dispense with the hard disk and ssh server, and run the OS and LMS from a USB stick or cheap SSD, with your music on a NAS mount. You wouldn't have the dubious benefit of mutual reinforcement within the Windows tweaking community, but you would learn a damn sight more about what really makes computers tick... -- darrell ------------------------------------------------------------------------ darrell's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13460 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93257 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
