Great post adamdea! As far as your 1st point is concerned I really think Logitech deserves credit, in so far as, I understand, the analoge stage of the Touch is also very decently designed. Not groundbreaking or universally non-betterable, but adhering to sound engineering principles. They did their homework.... as the saying goes.
