Mike,
>From what I have seen at Moorabbin, the so called "forced
landing practice" is compromised by the requirement that the
aircraft may not descend below 500ft.  At least we train in
motorgliders which lets the student get right down to very
late final in the paddock.
I believe some of the country GA flight schools do go below
the 500 ft limit, but a large proportion of GA pilots are
trained at places like Moorabbin, and haven't really seen
whether their confident assertion that "yes I would have got
into that paddock" is true or not.
