Geoff,   Non Profit doesn't take into account cost recovery and production charges - no one does this for free. The statement possibly reflects a general good will to gliding, being gliding guys. I guess the first two years of making microairs for me was non profit - aren't I a good guy!   There is already considerable up take here as I have 30 firm orders, 50 for trials and a further 20 in friends who have said they will get one - that's nearly 8% without any real push. I really boils down to the individuals. GFA are looking into this and ADS-B as I have corresponded with them. The thing is, we really don't have a year or more to think out another system and this one works, albeit our units have some changes to the way things are presented, as per pilots comments and articles we have seen. On Friday we tested ours for range, the K21 to ground was getting over 3 km's with greater than 90% packets being processed, 1km was 100%. Subject: [Aus-soaring] More information on Flarm Have just read he "Report from Friedrichshafen" by Dave Nadler in the Sept issue of SSA Soaring.   There he says that Flarm is a not-for-profit organisation. I was not aware of that.   He also says that 450 Flarms were flying at end 2004 ..... with 2600 shipped since then (I assume this is to Countries he lists below).   Based on his advice that there are 1200 Gliders in Switzerland, 500 in Austria and 7000 in Germany and if the above assumption is correct, that means they have a take-up rate that may be as high as 35% in a comparatively short time.   But WE need to evaluate whether this is worthwhile.   I can understand that there is an issue re frequencies and Dave mentions that as an issue for the USA, as well as Product Liability Insurance for the US, ............ but does anyone really think that it needs a great deal of evaluation when the Europeans pilots and owners are voting with their wallets.   But I guess that someone will still argue, as they did recently on this forum, that Flarm shouldn't be adopted here because they will promote poor lookout practice ... and double negatives.   Save for the technical issues ............. LET'S GET ON WITH THEIR ADOPTION AND IMPLEMENTATION HERE, and try to save a life or 2.   Is the GFA talking with the Insurers yet?
