If some of you remember, I tried an aus-soaring forum a few years ago. It
even had an aus-soaring.com.au domain name. To get people in, I wrote a
script that would "gank" all emails on this list and put it the forum, so
the content was synchronised.

However, as people have rightly pointed out, logging into a website is a
PITA and people tend to lose interest fast.
Having once been a proponent of forums, I now think email groups are easy
enough and if you use something like gmail, it will thread your
conversations quite nicely and you can actively "ignore" any discussion you
don't want to hear about.

For those of you out there you cannot comprehend this "gmail" thing, I
suggest Exchange 2007 - it threads in much the same way.
