Why not.

because we invite Oracle to be a part of the community, an important. Maybe Oracle must change his view about the open source project OpenOffice.org a bit ;-)

I did not say to leave Oracle out. Heck they even went so far as to rename StarOffice to Oracle Open Office.

I know this is not really the place to discuss this, but you did bring
it up. Why would Oracle turn over the rights it has to OOo and lose
control of it? That would be like asking a CEO to go work on the
assembly line with the rest of the "grunts".

At the very beginning they got Star Office and its source code under condition to set it free under an open source license. And it was the community that creates the naming and the value of the trademark OpenOffice.org. We - the community - were working hard to establish OpenOffice.org in the office market.

Who is going to enforce the condition? I agree it is the community that makes OOo what it is. But since Oracle what take over the community has had problems getting somethings done. Not only the ODF icons but getting a "new and improved logo" is stalled, and here it is several months into the changes that Oracle wanted.

Oracle has already "improved" OOo that people are refusing to upgrade to
the newer versions. The ODF icon sets for just one example of their
control of OOo.

But you can get a version without this not distinguishable icons. I.e. have a look at LibreOffice ;-)

I know I downloaded a copy for my XP laptop to take a look at. The problem these is that is installs over the OOo v 3.2.1 that was installed. Not good for a beta to do that. From the quick look before I un-installed I liked what I see. Which a DEB version was available that would install like the OOODev does so that they could be put up side by side.

Thanks for the reply.
