I have been thinking about what can be done to make the name change as
painless as possible, by using an htaccess file (or some other technical
wizardry) at the new site and/or setting up a dummy site with the
OOoAuthors domain name that simply redirects common links to the
equivalent at the new site. (My webhost, Dreamhost, allows me to have as
many domains on my account as I wish, without extra charge -- other than
the annual cost of the domain names. However, they do not allow Plone
sites, so putting the existing OOoAuthors site there is not possible.)
No doubt many links will break, but at least they can be made to end up
at the ODFAuthors home page rather than disappearing into cyberspace and
throwing up a 404 Page Not Found error.
Is it possible to blanket reroute any link directly into the current
site to a single point on the new site? If so, that may save time and
still get the point across. Main links to a proper place is even better,
but, there is a question of time and work.
When we have agreed to move and change name, I will be discussing
possibilities with our friends at OOo-DeV.
I would have said that the over-whelming response was +1 regardless of
the discussion.
