If it is temporary only and the james team agrees (I think they are indeed interested in seeing this code soon, right?) it's fine by me, even if from your e-mail it sounds like it makes more sense to me to add a branch to james cvs.
In order to resolve this problem I would like to import the modified James sources into avalon-sandbox to enable James and Avalon people to dig into this.
