Yep, bc at using GCC 4.5.1 the patches:
  50-avr-libc-1.7.1-atxmega256a3bu.patch
  51-avr-libc-1.7.1-at90pwm161.patch
also fail. And bc you leave out 
  41-avr-libc-1.7.1-xmega128b1.patch
you must modify
  52-avr-libc-1.7.1-atmega32_5_50_90_pa.patch";
otherwise that fails too. So indeed this some mess, so
i must concur with what Eric and Joerg said earlier in this thread.
