This sounds like it was related to the XML::LibXML* global callback
problems, discussed at the following two threads:

http://axkit.org/cgi-bin/ezmlm-cgi?5:sss:906:200404:dbffannaclhkbkogofnc#b
http://axkit.org/cgi-bin/ezmlm-cgi?5:sss:922:200405:hcdjcllpndldnidcilgc#b

You may find the module version combination listing at
http://axkit.org/cgi-bin/ezmlm-cgi?5:mss:902:200404:dbffannaclhkbkogofnc
useful.

P.S.:
I wanted to add a XML::LibX* parser wrapper for AxKit that implicitly
(un)sets the global callbacks but decided to wait for that until things
like  xmlPopInputCallback()
(http://axkit.org/cgi-bin/ezmlm-cgi?5:mss:923:200405:nolcfhcdkfajkfflebgo)
wandered into XML::LibX*...
