As I understand it, it's a two part process if you DON'T know the number of
your ancestors Alien Record. If you already have the number you skip to the
last step and pay the $35 for the record itself. Sooooo, if you don't know any
numbers it's going to cost you a total of $55. which is not good but at least
you get the record! I know about 15 years ago I wrote to SF for my Va's and I
even had the number and they sent the wrong info back. As I understand it from
Miriam Smith, that happened often! I can't understand how they kept track of
the Alien situation giving out duplicate numbers!

Kansas City

So, just to clarify this issue ..........If a person wants to locate an Alien
Registration record, then, is it necessary to use the fee-for-service Genealogy
Program from the USCIS? Is that just one resource that could potentially locate
all an ancestor's immigration related records for you which would then require
you to send for the records from them and pay the fee of $20 - $35 for each
record? If you just request the record from the FOIA using Form G639 (as we've
done in the past), is that still an option?

I'm confused......not the first time! LOL
