Mine were 13 and 16.  Except a 13 or a 16 year old back around 1900 was very
different than a 13 or 16 year old today.  I don't think the concept of
"teenager" hit America until American high school started to gain ground.
By the 1950s, teenagers were pretty established.  I'm sure 13 and 16 year
olds around 1900 could run a household fairly well.  When I ran the
detention room, I found 13 year olds who didn't know how to operate a vacuum
cleaner!

I don't know of any job or occupation records.  New England was full of
mills.  See if you can borrow a copy of "Portuguese Spinner."  It tells what
life was like for them in a variety of occupations.  See if the WorldCat has
it and you can borrow it.  I think someone (Jesse Pacheco?) checked out a
copy from his local library somewhere in MA or RI.  I'm not sure where Jesse
actually lives.
