Karen,

You seem to be getting a number of suggestions. Here's mine, for what its
worth regarding paper copies. My maternal side of the family (Italian,
English, Irish, etc) maintain surnames from one generation to the next, so I
simply file by surname. My paternal side (Azorean) doesn't seem to follow
any nice surname patterns, so I file by generations. First gen. is me and my
sister, second for my parents, third for my grandparents, etc. At some point
though, that gets switched to alphabetized surnames because the size
increases exponentially with each generation and my binder becomes too
small. My break point is at the time of immigration to the states.

Much like my sewing room, I'm always trying new ways to organize to make
everything more efficient.

Good luck,

Gayle
