We've taken the boat from Sao Miguel and Terceira several times and have had no problems with sea sickness. We enjoy watching the coastlines and being among the local people. Ferry travel between islands is great fun for people who aren't prone to sea sickness. It's also significantly cheaper especially with inter island baggage fees for flying although I think the overage charges have been discontinued since we didn't have to pay any last year. When we went to the islands back in 1999 and 2001 the boats were not available in the early part of May. That may have changed. We flew from Lisboa to Sao Miguel to Terceira to Sao Jorge back to Terceira to Lisboa.
