Gary, have you had any contact with your half brother David Pimentel? I don't know what sort of family dynamic you're dealing with, but because he is older he may remember valuable details about your father's history, the sort of information you wouldn't be able to get from public records. As an emeritus professor, he probably keeps irregular hours, but you might be able to reach him easily by email.
