Hi there,
Cheri, you're right....I've been working on finding my 8 ggreat grandparents
from Pico, Sao Jorge and Santa Maria for over 10 years and I usually work on it
several days a week. For the first 4 years I worked on it daily for many hours
a day. After "E" helped me find Antonio Teixeira Baptista....who's only name I
knew was Antone Baptiste and then finding him in the CCA baptisms for TOPO, I
was totally committed to finding them all.....I only have one brick wall left,
my ggreat grandfather from Sao Jorge, Joseph Veterino/Jose Enos, Bettencourt,
Vieira, Oliveira.....he's a mystery man although I have some clues and an
intuitive sense that several of my Family Finder matches connect with him.
Rosemarie, I love that we're cousins and although our DNA tells us that we
still have discoveries to make.....I like looking at our "in common" matches on
FF for clues since we have several in common. Although, Rosa Luiza is from
Lajes do Pico, I do have ancestry in my Sao Jorge line that goes back to
Flamengos, Faial....Domingos de Abreu whose son moved to Sao Jorge, married and
changed his surname to that of his wife's family...the de Quadros family.
Who knows......we have several areas we could connect.....I have to live a long
time to discover all I want to discover.....and now DNA has not only provided
clues but opened doors to many other areas to learn and discover new things!
Thanks to the many people in the group who have helped me along the
way...especially, last year....Denis and Tish Meals whose years of work
extracting Santa Maria records found how Tish and I were cousins....FFinder
matched her to my uncle John Baptiste although not to me.....took us back to
our 6th ggrandparent, Dona Maria do Santo Antonio, born in Sao Lourenco and
married to Capitao Mauricio de Sousa Meneses around 1681. They broke my brick
wall behind my 4th ggrandfather, Francisco Ventura Moreira......can't thank
them enough! This was also a great example of testing the oldest person you
can....Tish matched my 91 year old paternal uncle....not me.

This is sooooo great, Nancy! According to Igor Espinola Franca's book of Sao
Roque do Pico, one of my lines came from Faial! Maybe that's where we connect
not in Pico at all. The only trouble is, it's way before the marriage records
start and they don't show in Familias da Faialenses! Oh well, we know the DNA
shows the conenctions, Prima!

Great story! The pieces are starting to fall into place.

Nancy Jean has been working on her family for how many years before finding
this breakthrough? Many, many years!
