In my family, Carneiro was always used to refer to a lamb, but then, none 
of my ancestors ever learned to read or write, let alone have the privilege 
of a formal education. As for Cordeiro vs. Carneiro, I know that both names 
date back quite a way, but I suspect that Cordeiro may be the more ancient 
of the two. Interestingly, while I have many links to Carneiros, I haven't 
found one link, yet, to a Cordeiro.
