luiznoia, Thank you so much for finding the 1880 census! With the Ignacio being spelled Ygnacio, and John using the Portuguese spelling Joao, no wonder I couldn't find them. They did have a son named Joseph, and a lot of other children. I do have Filomena coming to the U.S. in 1868, but it is with her father and several siblings. She is 13. They are from Feteira, Faial according to the passport record. I also have her father and mother's baptism records and they are indeed from Feteira, Faial. About John and Filomena's marriage: According to the 1900 census, they had been married 30 years, so that indicates they married in 1870, which would have them marrying in the U.S. Family stories say John was already in the U.S. before Filomena came. I am still trying to find out if they married in a church nearby, that may still exist so I can find records.
