Thanks for your response Kathy. Yes, I guess it boils down to what one is comfortable with. I’m finding it very difficult to not be certain. One mistake can lead you to follow the totally wrong line back in time…. ☹

I’d say by the preponderance of evidence. Sometimes, in research as you know, you don’t get enough direct evidence for a definitive answer, so you have to use the concept of preponderance of evidence. So, collect every record you can for this person, couple, and children….. even grandchildren to see if he is mentioned ….. at least the one you think is your person ….. and compare them. Hopefully it will give you an answer you are comfortable with.
