I do this by using a Linux raid1 created with a disk missing as my 
backuppc partition then periodically adding an external drive to the 
array, letting it sync then rotating it offsite about like tapes would 
be done.  But, some of the targets are machines in other locations, so 
it is practical, depending on the amount of data and your bandwidth.
