If ping doesn't work, then you didn't set the client name setting in 
each config file.  And read the doc's referred to earlier (  
http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/faq/BackupPC.html#item__conf_clientnamealias_ 
) -- This doesn't work with DHCP set to 1 in the hosts file.

The DHCP flag is a bit of a misnomer.. I have DHCP configured to 
register names into my local bind/named and I do not need the DHCP flag.
