I get the following: perl -e 'use Compress::Zlib;' is only avaliable with the XS version at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/Compress/Zlib.pm line 9 BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/Compress/Zlib.pm line 9. Compilation failed in require at -e line 1. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at -e line 1.
Zlib and Zlib-devel are both installed as well. The dependencies should work, but maybe they are broken in your case. (However, if you built then from source then they should be right.)
