If you can find those errors in the logs for files that still exist
you might try doing the same link with the ln command to see if it
gives a better diagnostic for why it fails. It could be something
quirky like a small limit to the number of hardlinks allowed in your
target filesystem, or something you are missing about
permissions/ownership (nfsv4 can be weird).
